Purpose

Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016 does not provide any option on the Send Connectors or Transport rules to set sender based routing. RouteBySender application allows you to route outgoing emails based on sender group membership or based on the sender's domain.

Typical scenario of usage

Let's assume that your Exchange 2007/2010/2013/2016 server has only one send connector "Internet Connector" using DNS for the address space *. All messages leaving the organization will use this connector. Let's further assume that you want to route messages from members of a certain group to a smarthost instead of using DNS. RouteBySender utility will help you to solve this problem.
